“I DO HAVE MEMORIES OF SITTING ON DADS SNOOKER TABLE AND RECORDING SOME DIALOGUE” – EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH HARRY WATERS

After taking part in some tours with his father, he recently played the entire album The Final Cut in Rome as a guest of Pink Floyd Legend and we took the opportunity to exchange a few words

FC: Your artistic journey with your father and Pink Floyd begins with The Wall. You were very little when you recorded “Look, Mummy. There’s an aeroplane up in the sky.”, but do you have any memories?

HW: I do have memories of sitting on dads snooker table and recording some dialogue when I was very young around 4 or 5 perhaps. I can’t say for certain that this was when I recorded those specific lines though.

FC: Excluding Pink Floyd you have played with Ozric Tentacles, with Marianne Faithfull as well as your own projects. But what is your “musical comfort zone”?

HW: Great question, I really love to play jazz, and any music that involves improvisation. But I also love studying classical piano, which I only started studying avidly about 10 years ago.

FC: Last year you played Animals with Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade. I know it’s your favorite Pink Floyd album. Do you still have anything planned with this super band?

HW: I really hope so. I know that Les is touring with Primus this year, so there are no plans for 2024 to tour the Frog Brigade. Hopefully in the future.

FC: You recently played The Final Cut with Pink Floyd Legend in Italy. It’s an album that divides Pink Floyd fans. In your opinion, is it right to consider it as a solo work by your father?

HW: Yes, I think that’s a fair point. It very much feels like a continuation of The Wall, I know the songs were written at the same time as those that appeared on that album. To me, it doesn’t feel like a collaboration. It feels very much like a Roger Waters solo record with the members of Pink Floyd as session musicians.

FC: Can we expect another tour of your father and maybe once again with you on the piano?

HW: Who knows, we’ll have to wait and see!
